Multi-Camera Tutorial

  • Add a new clip or source by clicking on the ã+ä sign in each of the source boxes.
  • At the top of each source, the current Multi-Camera timeline position and duration of the clip is displayed.
  • Up to 3 additional sources can be added. Each source is color coded on the Multi-Camera timeline.
  • Sometimes the starting points for each of the sources may be offset from each other. To get them aligned, use the Synch Source function.
  • A new window appears with each of the sources. Each of the clips can be synchronized relative to the base clip that is selected on the iMovie timeline. To adjust a starting point, click on the color bar for a source and it will be highlighted. Drag the color bar to the left or right to set the offset. A negative value means that the source will start after the starting point of the base clip. A positive value will move the starting point of the source to be before base clip.
  • To fine-tune the starting point, the arrow keys on the keyboard can be used to adjust a single frame.
  • When the Synch Sources has been completed, click the OK button. The current timeline position of each source has been adjusted to the offset.
  • To cut between sources, move the playhead to the desired location. Small previews of each source at that timeline position are displayed. Click on the Set Source ã+ä icon for the color-coded source.
  • The Multi-Camera timeline will display a colored marker for the cut point. A colored horizontal like shows the active source at any given point. Add other cut points the same way.
  • Use the horizontal scroll bar to move Multi-Camera timeline.
  • Another way to move the playhead frame-by-frame is to use the Play command.
  • The Magnification Slider changes the view of the Multi-Camera timeline to show more (or less) of the entire sequence.
  • Sources can be switch using the keyboard shortcuts - Command-1 to Command-4.
  • To change the location of a cut point, click on a cut point marker and drag it to the left or right.
  • To remove the cut point, click on the Remove Cut Point icon.
