Tips on Creating PDF Files

Creating a PDF is OS X is as simple as selecting the Save as PDF button when printing a document. Using a PDF give you lots of creative control in creating your title ­ virtually any application can be used. Anything that can be printed can be made into a PDF. So have fun.

Here are some tips when creating PDFs for use the Slick plug-ins.

  • Font size will need to be larger than a normal text document. Also, san-serif fonts tend to look better when used in video.
  • If planning to use a transparent background, make sure that the text color will stand out against the video clip. Using a shadow for text may help.
  • If a transparent background is desired and graphics are in the PDF, make sure that the graphic image has a transparent background. Otherwise a white box will appear around edges of the graphic.
  • Some applications work better than others in creating PDFs with a transparent background. For example, Preview creates a white background on documents. But Microsoft Word creates documents with a transparent background. So you may need to experiment with different applications to get the desired results.
  • Page size can make a difference. If a long seamless title is desired, set up a custom page size to be very long. This way the printer margins will not create spaces between pages. The same goes if you would like to have PDFs with a landscape orientation.
